Useful Hardware
Rio PMP300
Made by Diamond Multimedia, the Rio PMP300 is the world's first portable MP3 player. It's a tiny little gizmo (about 6.5cm x 9.5cm x 1.5cm) that stores .MP3 files in it's 32MB memory (about 35 minutes at CD-quality compression). You can add more memory via 16 or 32MB flashcards.
PalmPilot
Originally made by US Robotics (since bought out by 3Com), the PalmPilot is a handheld organiser. Text is entered by writing on the screen with a stylus, using a special writing system called Graffiti™. All characters are made using a single stroke of the stylus - as soon as you take the stylus off the screen the character appears. You'd think that this would be tricky, but it's surprisingly easy to pick up (in fact I often find myself accidentally using Graffiti™ when filling in crosswords!!!)
Useful Software Gadgets
Plannet Crafters
A cool company! They make a very useful product called FlyWheel. Basically, if you have an Intellimouse, you need this software! It allows you to alter the way in which the wheel behaves in any program you specify, as well as adding support for software that doesn't make use of the wheel as standard
Digital Information Gallery
These guys make DiskData, a tool that shows you graphically what space is being taken up on your hard disk. While File Manager and Windows Explorer will both show the size of files, they don't show you how much space is being taken up by directories. DiskData will show you this, as well as showing free space. Because it's graphical, it is a lot easier to see the relative size of directories
Winzip
Okay, now I know that pretty much everyone in the known world has heard of WinZip, but I thought I'd link to it jsut 'cause it's such a damned groovy little app!! Get big file... Zip big file... Big file now little file!! Lovely!
