Helios Software
These guys make TextPad. TextPad is simply THE best text editing software I've ever used. Imagine Notepad that comes with Microsoft Windows, but with a host more features, such as a proper find and replace (including the ability to find all occurrences of a particular string in all files in a specified directory (including subdirectories)), a groovy macro feature, spell checker etc. I use this for all my HTML work - it even allows you to look at your webpage in a browser as you're editing it.

Sausage Software
Sausage Software are the makers of Hot Dog, the HTML editing software I used to learn web design. If you're new to web authoring, it's worth checking out.

Jasc Software
This company make Paint Shop Pro, which is a groovy, easy to use, image editing program. It comes with some useful bits and bobs, like the Paint Shop Pro Browser which displays all the images within a directory as thumbnails. You can then open them up in PSP by double-clicking them. It also supports loads of file formats.
