Lofty's Broken Ankle

On Saturday 15th May 2004, I was woken at about 7:30 in the morning by terrible cramp in my calves. This is not unusual, as I seem to suffer from cramp quite frequently. What was unusual, however was that, when I got up to walk it off (my usual remedy) I ended up collapsed on the floor!

After a visit to the Accident and Emergency department of the Kent and Sussex hospital it was determined that I had broken my ankle in three places!!! Quite how I did that is still unclear: Did I hit it on the wall as I got up? Did I step awkwardly? Did I twist it? I doubt I'll ever know, but it resulted in my having an operation to fix it, and then spending seven weeks in a cast, and having to learn to walk again, afterwards!

Below are the X-Rays that were taken - the first shows the breaks, the second shows it the day they took the cast off.

My ankle in a not-particulary-healthy condition!

Seven weeks later, and the ankle is fixed (note the metal plate and eight screws holding it in place!)
